On Macs, scrolling is slow in Safari and Firefox, and Chrome won't work at all (because you can't download the latest Java you need).
WOW! This is too exciting.
Thank you so much Vine for all your work! And others too (John, Lewis, Ethan) for supporting it. I am thrilled to see this taking form, it's a leap forward. I was able to view it successfully in Firefox (3.5.7), and the clicking seems to be working, when i click on a box it moves to center. I'm sure there are kinks still be worked out, but it's awesome to have this up and running, and in time for our Bay Area session too.
With vast gratitude and appreciation for the amazing things others can make happen that i wouldn't have the first clue how to do,

Note: right now, clicking a box brings up the applet invokation code (in Safari).

Weird. Works for me. --John
Raines: Clicking a pattern is supposed to cause the map to be centered on that box. Clicking a pattern while holding down Ctrl is supposed to take you to the pattern card, like you said. This works for me with Firefox, MSIE, and Chrome, but I don't have Safari. Could you email me a screenshot (see my contact info) to show me what you mean by "the applet invokation code"? Thanks.

Malcolm Best suggested there being some way to view/download/print the entire map.

GUI for pattern relationships was the original specification of what we were wanting, which has been completely achieved.

http://grouppatternlanguage.org/special/layout_map.html is a first attempt at showing *all* of the relationships among patterns. Click "start" at the bottom to see them. Let us know what you think!

The original wiki had a map until the service they were using disappeared. See http://www.c2.com/cgi/wiki?VisualTour and if it's helpful i can probably track down the authors and/or the code.

As of 7/1/10, pattern maps are being drawn by a new version (2.0) of the display software. The primary advantage of the new maps is that they show all of the relationships between the displayed patterns instead of only enough relationships to plot a path to all of the patterns. The downside of this is that the maps are much more cluttered and may be more difficult to read. As before, you can click on a pattern to limit the map to just that pattern along with its neighbors up to two links away; this will usually improve readability. Also as before, you can ctrl-click a pattern to navigate to its detailed description.
I recognize that the maps are not optimal, and I will continue to work on the algorithm in an effort to eliminate unnecessary link crossings and otherwise improve readability.

The Java download does not work in Ubuntu linux with Firefox.

Doug -- I have an Ubuntu derivative (Freespire) with Firefox and it works. Did the old version work for you? What exactly does it do instead of working? Do you get any kind of error message?

Wondering what it would look like if it gave higher priority to links to/from nodes that are of further-along stages (i.e. most to bouquet, second to bloom, etc.)
--John Abbe.....Thu Nov 25 11:40:29 -0800 2010
(vine tried that out, and it didn't seem to help at all.)

works now on my OSX/Chrome

I believe the reason this feature no longer works is probably that hosting for the site was changed and the ftp-accessible files required to support the Java applet were not included in the migration. You can view a static version of the pattern map at http://groupworksdeck.org/pattern_map.
