  • I just added a field to the User Card offering everybody the opportunity (if you feel so inclined) to write a bit about the distinction between pattern and process. We spent some good time chewing on it while we were together in Berkeley, so I thought I'd request some of our thoughts make it into print. I'm happy to receive feedback of any kind about this proposal. --brandon

I would like us to have a forum for continuing that conversation, but think it would best be done either through the email list or on its own page here on the site?  Doing it through user cards seems like an awkward fit to me, unnecessarily clumsy.  Cheers, --Tree

I opted for the User Card angle because it seemed to me particularly elegant and WAGNy. If the responses are all in the body of a page then they are stuck there, just like they would be in an email conversation. If they are in card form they can be collected in a page dedicated to the topic, but also may be included elsewhere, stay associated directly with the User who created them, etc. I may be misunderstanding how WAGN works in this, as I am still trying to figure it out. Apologies if I have missed something in attempting this and caused confusion. --brandon

Note that the User Card change has been undone, and the conversation shifted over to the discussion areas on What is a pattern language and What we mean by "pattern" and the email list.  --Tree

I haven't yet seen a good Wagn-y forum system that puts each comment in a separate card (e.g., what Gerry proposed by email doesn't do that). I'm sure something like that will emerge eventually, but it may require some further development to do well (though i'm certainly open to seeing how it could be done with Wagn as it is!). For now, i'm with Tree on keeping it simple.

I did create a Forum card pointing to different places on the site where conversations take place.

    • If you are signed in, you can double-click inside any "card" to edit it.
    • To make a link to another card when you're editing, place the card name inside double brackets, e.g. [[card name]].
    • To post URLs or links where the text you click on has different wording than the technical location of the link, put the real location before a "pipe" character | and the displayed name after, like this:  [[exact URL|display link]].
    • To get to the page (and web address) for a card, click on .
    • There's a link to your home card in the header — My Card: your name, and you can put information about yourself there, and change your password (in the Options tab).
