  • Each pattern - e.g., Fractal - has a list of related patterns. What we would like is near those a "closed" card that you can open up that looks something like this:

Mirroring is related to Reflection, Alchemy of Naming, Personal Practice, Clear Channel and Feedback Loops. Feedback Loops is also related back to Mirroring (which is why that line has an arrowhead on both ends), and Personal Practice is related to Setting Personal Intention The map only shows two layers out — the patterns Mirroring is related to, and what those patterns are related to. If you click on any pattern, it moves to the center and you see two layers out from that pattern.

Ideally this all happens in a card on the Mirroring page, so that if, through browsing, the person runs across a pattern that they'd like to see Mirroring related to, they can easily make that edit right there. (Through Wagn. We're not trying to make it possible to edit in new relationships graphically yet.) If this is too hard, it's okay if the map has to open in a new tab/window.

We also want a separate way to see the whole map at once.

In both cases, it would be nice if you could double-click (or something) on any pattern and be taken to its page on Wagn.

Nice write-up John! I think this expresses it clearly. Thank you.

Thanks, John. On the whole this doesn't look difficult. I'm not sure about being able to navigate through Wagn by clicking on the map; I'll have to think about that one.

Am I correct in the following understandings?

    1. The physical placement of stuff doesn't matter, e.g., it would be okay if "Clear Channel" and "Alchemy of Naming" were swapped.

    2. The arrowheads can be determined by looking at the "Related Patterns" Section. So Reflection appears in the Related Patterns section for Mirroring, but Mirroring does not appear in the Related Patterns section for Reflection? (Seems a little odd to me.)

This sounds amazing. I have no idea how the idea is actually manifested (as in what code would be necessary to make it happen or how it would be implemented), but the concept is sound. If it works I'd be thrilled, and feel we'd really "nailed" the need.

Amy - Vine is looking into using FreeMind, and extending Wagn so that it exposes the relevant data in a way that FreeMind can generate the maps.

Vine - 1. Yes, that's my understanding. 2. Also yes. I imagine that many if not most of the lines will have arrowheads on both ends. Over time we may realize and make explicit several different *kinds* of relationships, some of which may be directional.

I'm thinking about how it would integrate with Wagn. If it were a cardtype that like a search card, has WQL like syntax to select what cards are mapped as nodes. But thinking about how you would select data elements for the maps from the card and pluscard elements, that might be better handled with a special hard template that uses transclusion syntax to generate the source map for FreeMind to work on.

Looking a bit further at FreeMind docs, I think we also will need to write a "mode" for Wagn.

    • If you are signed in, you can double-click inside any "card" to edit it.
    • To make a link to another card when you're editing, place the card name inside double brackets, e.g. card name.
    • To post URLs or links where the text you click on has different wording than the technical location of the link, put the real location before a "pipe" character | and the displayed name after, like this:  display link.
    • To get to the page (and web address) for a card, click on Arrow_icon-medium-6101.
    • There's a link to your home card in the header — My Card: your name, and you can put information about yourself there, and change your password (in the Options tab).
