Holding Space - the event space is the physical container for the event
Power of Place - the place where the session is being held provides the 'raw material' of place the convenors work with; arranging the space is optimizing the layout and value of the space under this constraint
Reframing, is a key subpattern in All Grist for the Mill, as one main way of expressing it.
Transparency is another important theme, as being open about the "milling" process really helps.
Sometimes it takes Go Deeper to find the usefulness of something that happens.
It only makes sense to receive whatever happens as all grist for the mill to the degree that you trust Emergence. (I.e., it is a subset of Emergence.)
Reframing something negative (a "problem") in positive terms ("an opportunity") is an expression of appreciation. Improvisation requires an appreciative "yes and..." building on what's come before.
Unity and Diversity is a linked pattern because awareness of it is part of how we execute Appropriate Boundaries skillfully.
Shared Airtime supports Appropriate Boundaries; part of why we set the boundary is so that one person will not take over the group space.
Appropriate Boundaries is one of the ways a group needs to Balance Structure and Flexibility.
Quite often, you draw appropriate boundaries to keep Priority Focus.
Remembering the Power of Constraints can help people to accept or even appreciate a decision to draw boundaries.
Membership questions always relate to the Invitation.
Groups with new members coming in should be prepared for divergence. Groups that are in the convergence phase of Divergence and Convergence Rhythm should probably not be accepting new members.
RITUAL - repetitive
ITERATION
EMERGENCE
This pattern is part of those that are Kynetic and body related.
The physical space should be arranged in a circle, with a focus and room for people to enter the circle and the centre.
Opening & Welcome -- the other "bookend" of a group process
Celebration (because often punctuates, as a closing, the sense of accomplishment & appreciation)
Follow the Energy -- for emergent closings
Measurement -- often part of, or just preceding, the closing
Convergence and Divergence Rhythm -- what comes between opening and closing
Ritual -- an integral part of many closings
Naming - making it explicit to the group what their common ground is
Holding Dissonance
Convergence & Divergence?
Unity & Diversity?
Going Deeper
Divergence and Convergence Rhythm - this pattern is one main part of the Convergence half.
Dive in must be respectful of people's boundaries, allowing for norms of when to opt out.
The rhythm moves between Opening and Closing, they they are contained within Convergence/Divergence.
Harvesting is part of converging.
Unity and Diversity is an over-arching theme that contains Converence and Divergence.
Balance Structure and Flexibility weaves in and out with Convergence and Divergence. While in essence Convergence would be thought of as aligning with Structure and Divergence with Flexibility, you can use Structures that support Divergence.
Patterns relevant to Convergence include:
Patterns relevant to Divergence include:
Embrace Dissonance and Difference
Shared Airtime and Neutral Attention Out are ways of holding the space for differences and dissonances.
The divergence element of Convergence and Divergence rhythm is intended to encourage differences and dissonances as a means of gaining appreciation and new perspectives.
Feedback supports Emergence to arise, the discernment of Unity and Diversity, and Following the Energy.
Mapping and Measurement may be one form of feedback.
Mirroring is a subset of feedback.
Naming something can be a form of feedback, and offering feedback may result in the Naming.
Being a Letting Go supports a guide to follow the energy more fully.
Presence by both the facilitator and the participants helps everyone tune into how to follow the energy and where is it leading.
Following the energy naturally results in a Rest.
This pattern is intertwined with Balance Structure and Flexibility.
Naming both helps figure out where the energy is and helps with situations where you don't have the opportunity to follow the energy in the moment.
- Mirroring may be viewed as downstream, perhaps a subset of hologram deliberately engaged in.
- Naming seems closely related; an outward manifestation and use of the insights gained from consciousness of hologram. (Not all naming arises from mirroring; naming may also arise from other sources.)
- Letting Go is how hologram is mediated and helps it happen validly.
- Feedback is part of hologram and also helps one discern whether hologram has happened accurately.
- Subgroup and Whole Group is about working with two or several levels of the size dimension of hologram.
We include natural places and objects, and draw on their aesthetics, in designing the space for an event. Gaia connects us with our spirit.
(from imagination & creativity)
ty.Brainstorming is an exercise that requires imagination and creativity.
Suspension opens the way for imagination and creativity to be exercised.
Imagination is an inherently emergent activity; creativity may be emergent or structured.
Letting go of outcome may be a prerequisite for imagination and creativity.Art can be a catalyst for imagination and creativity.
Jam Session is a means of exhibiting imagination and creativity.
When we go deeper we may not reach "all the way" to Spirit, but that is generally the direction we are going.
Ond of the most effective ways to maintain Good Faith Assumptions is to go deeply into what may have motivated what someone has done or said.
The deeper we go together, the more Common Ground we generally find.
Inquiry is one of the best ways to go deeper. (E.g., see Strategic Questioning)
