    • Quote

      • Find a quote about the individual's struggles as manifestations of the universal, and their resolution likewise.

    Notes:

NOTES: This is different from pulling the general pattern out of an individual conflict and creating group-wide processes to discuss and deal with the generality. This pattern instead uses the specificity of an example to work through the general case of trouble, or to deal with the impacts of this specific trouble.

Notes: Successful design with this pattern involves a host of high level facilitation skills. This makes it intimidating for the facilitator, the group, and the individuals involved in the trouble. Key to successful implementation is trust: Trust in the group with individual “dirty laundry”, trust in the facilitator to provide a safe container for the resolution to take place, trust in the individuals involved to allow transparency and to engage with the process.

Notes: An antipattern to Public resolution of Individual trouble is the “dumping” of an individual trouble by one of the involved parties into the community's lap.

    Heart Notes:
Individual troubles addressed publicly can have a ripple effect of benefits.

When an organization is supersaturated with a form of challenge, the public resolution of a given instance can unleash a chain reaction, shifting not only the instance brought to light, but the overall field of the group.

When the border between public and private bump up against one another, private troubles can seep into and affect the public life.
