  • Below are both in-person events we've organized for ourselves, and other events where some of us might gather to work on this pattern language.

    Attendees: Core Team plus Raines Cohen, Betsy Morris, Michael Wolf, Dan Doherty, and Kate Sutherland; Kathy McGrenera will join us for Saturday evening only

     

    Saturday January 21: 17:00 onwards -- guests arrive (dinner at Dave's approx 18:00 onwards, followed by games evening)

     

    Sunday January 22: Group Pattern Language Project Marketing Meeting

    08:00 - 09:00 breakfast

    09:00 - 16:00 (including 1 hour break for lunch)

    1. check-ins (whole group)
    2. review purpose of the day (whole group)
    3. marketing needs and opportunities discussion, including possible break-out groups to address:
      • brochures
      • pitches to and liaison with organizations that can help spread the word (see list on this Google Doc)
      • mailings, including managing, coordinating and consolidating mailing lists
      • outside events/conferences to attend (especially upcoming IAF North America conference in May)
      • events to put on ourselves
      • community PODs ("People Of the Deck?") getting together locally in 4-5 major areas
      • creating the Group Works "learning community" promised in the brochure and on our website
      • which outside websites to promote on and how
      • using our own websites for promotion and marketing (including decisions on which content to maintain where)
      • using the phone app for marketing
      • using the available analytics to develop marketing strategy
      • collecting and posting more blurbs/reviews
      • Second Life app
      • advertising
      • other?
    4. creation of ongoing marketing teams and developing a "who will do what by when" list and agreement on coordinating our messaging (whole group)

      • story collection and/or peer-to-peer help and/or other enhancements to the functionality and scope of the website (this is related to the Group Works "learning community" discussion from Sunday)

    Friday January 20: Core Team Gathering (facilitated by Chris Corrigan) -- this day's agenda subject to change by Chris

    08:00 - 09:00 arrival and breakfast

    09:00 - 17:00 check-ins; review purpose of the day; shared context/perspective on issues that have come up during our work together to date; discussion of how we each see our roles on the project evolving going forward and our personal vision of the project's future; development of a shared vision and consensus on roles; consensus on membership of the Core Team and of the Board going forward; agreement on groundrules for Core Team and Board activities going forward; (includes 1 hour break for lunch)

    18:00 - 21:00 celebratory dinner (out); if agenda above is not finished, resume meeting 19:00 - 22:00

     

    Saturday January 21: Core Team Planning Meeting

    08:00 - 09:00 breakfast

    09:00 - 13:00 and 15:00 - 17:00 (with lunch and break in between)

    1. check-ins
    2. review purpose of the day
    3. group assessment of what needs to be done over the next few months (re: the deck, the download version, the phone app, other activities)
    4. timeline development and assignment of work (consistent with roles agreed upon yesterday Friday)
    5. schedule of future meetings and events
    6. decisions on (a) access to 'working files', (b) website editing/permission rights/moderation, (c) getting intellectual capital rights waivers, and (d) "shareholder loan" clearing
    7. if necessary calling a 'Board Meeting' for any approvals, signatures etc. required for promissory notes, 501c3 or other documents.

    17:00 - 18:00 arrival and welcome of attendees for following two days' meetings (some may arrive Sunday morning)

    18:00 - 21:00 welcome dinner and playing games with the cards (at Dave's)

    Friday, November 12, 2010 in Portland we convened a 1-day work session 10am-5pm the day before the NCDD regional conference, at Daybreak Cohousing in N Portland, 2525 N. Killingsworth St.  Attendees were:  Ted Ernst, Tom Atlee, Peggy Holman, Pennie O'Grady, Sue Woehrlin, Tree Bressen, Dave Pollard, Dan Doherty, Mark Dilley, Mark Stiffler, Jenny LeisSee session notes here.

     

    NCDD regional conference in Portland Nov. 13, 2010. Our new draft card decks made quite a splash at this event, attracting two dozen people to one open space session, wow. People were excited to see the progress of the project, and readily came up with ideas for implementation.  Also some potential new volunteers coming out of this.

     

    Tuesday, October 19, 2010 in Berkeley, CA will be an afternoon work session, 1:30-5:30pm at the Long Haul, 3124 Shattuck Ave.: http://thelonghaul.org  So far the people coming are:  Amy, Tree, Dave, Raines, Dorit.  Please give Tree a heads-up if you are planning to come.  For last-minute changes or troubles, call Raines at 510-549-8790 (rings through to his cell when he's not home).  Whoever would like to meet ahead for lunch is invited at 12pm to Gather restaurant, 2200 Oxford St., Berkeley, 510-809-0400 http://www.gatherrestaurant.com/ . Please RSVP to Raines for lunch .  It's 1.3 miles from the Long Haul, hopefully enough time to eat for an hour and then get over to the work session.

    June 1, 2010 in Portland, OR:  Tree made the first ever public presentation about the pattern language project as one of the evening speakers at the Village Building Convergence, with assistance from Dave Pollard.

    February 26, 2010, 1:30-3:00PM (west coast time) — on the phone/net — The first of perhaps many virtual gatherings for people to do "show & tell" on patterns they've worked on, and for us to collectively contemplate one or more patterns. We looked at Subgroup and Whole Group, and made some edits and added some thughts to the discussion there.

    February 7-8, 2010 — Berkeley, CA — About 10 of us are planning to meet up in person for two days to write patterns together.  Participants are expected to already be familiar with the project (at least having read some main docs on the website) and ready to roll, contact Tree for more info.  We're starting with Sunday brunch 11am at Fat Apples, then meeting the rest of the time at Epworth United Methodist Church.  Hope to see ya there!

    January 25th, 2010 following Fabulous Facilitators (9-11am) in Berkeley.  Kaliya Hamlin will be supporting the conversation and Raines Cohen has offered the location at Berkeley Co-Housing Community until 4pm.  Think of this as a warmup for pattern writing when Tree comes to town in February.
