  • The core team has officially decided to focus on card deck publication as the next product, putting the cards in front of book publication.  I (Tree) am hoping we'll be ready to publish a card deck for real this spring.  In order to publish a card deck, the following needs to be accomplished (not necessarily in this order):

    1. Writing of explanatory material to accompany the publication (including an overview of what it is, invitation to get more involved online, and so on).
      a. Explanation of project:
      • overview of what it is and why
      • bit about our process in creating it
      b. Key to everything on the cards (name, number is alphabetical, image, heart text, categorization symbols, related patterns, etc.)
      c. Games or activities and anything that goes with them (instructions, stories, board, pieces)
      d. Map?
      e. Invitation to get more involved on the website
      f. How to buy more
    2. Final decisions on what cards to include in this deck publication:  did a pass on this at Bowen Jan. 2011, maybe one final pass before publication.
    3. Final editing of each card text.
    4. Acquisition of high quality images for all the cards, and final decisions about which to use.  John has been making great progress on improving the Image Library, with fields added indicating permission status, review, and more.
    5. Instructions for several games and activities (plus preparation of any materials needed for them, such as stories or a gameboard); see the Games List on the site for current info.
    6. Decision on one or more categorization schemes (either drawn from the existing list or newly created), if any are going to be included in this publication.
    7. Relationships among the patterns:  specifying more info on what kinds of relationships exist; editing the patterns for that; deciding how to represent the relationships in the card deck (map, small text around border of cards, or what else?).
    8. Professional-level graphic design and layout.
    9. Research the business side of publishing:  legalities, copyrights/lefts, attribution, permissions, revenue, what entity is responsible, marketing, packaging, is B-K interested in this product, how will distribution actually take place, etc.
    10. Website improvements for both internal (our development) and external (introducing the pattern language to the world) use.

Want to get involved with one or more of these areas?  Please get in touch with Tree or others for further connection.

    • If you are signed in, you can double-click inside any "card" to edit it.
    • To make a link to another card when you're editing, place the card name inside double brackets, e.g. card name.
    • To post URLs or links where the text you click on has different wording than the technical location of the link, put the real location before a "pipe" character | and the displayed name after, like this:  display link.
    • To get to the page (and web address) for a card, click on Arrow_icon-medium-6101.
    • There's a link to your home card in the header — My Card: your name, and you can put information about yourself there, and change your password (in the Options tab).
