A specific solution to recurring problem that can be used in a variety of settings, on a "stand alone" basis, or in combination with others. The smallest unit of "practice" that can produce a result. Usually, a technique is easily described or demonstrated, understood and used. E.g., "when upset, breath deeply until calm returns." Techniques may be seen as incipient patterns, at the lowest level of granularity, awaiting depiction using an agreed upon pattern template.
